I've used a couple of the selective grass killers (Poast, and some 
generic type) in a couple of areas.  I've been pleased with the 
results.  I guess the main drawback is that it leaves dead grass in 
its wake.  So, you still have to pull it out, for aesthetics...And of 
course, there's the issue of my beloved (NOT!) bermuda grass.  It 
kills what you can see, but then more always comes back.  It don't 
know if the herbicide fails to kill it completely, or if it's just 
new runners showing up.  It does, however, slow the grass down enough 
for me to be able to keep up with it.

Last summer, I was spraying a border along the edge of my yard, and 
accidently (oops!) sprayed the little section of my neighbor's yard, 
about 6 inches wide, between my fence and his retaining wall.  Funny, 
that's the same spot where I accidently dumped a bunch of mulch the 
year before. :-)  It worked pretty well there, too...
