I've started "painting" (not spraying in beds where there are plants I
want to keep) nasty perennial weeds with a strong solution of Roundup,
and it works real well. Don't pull the weeds first because you need
leaves to put the solution on. Just be sure you don't touch any good
plants, and rub the solution on with a cotton ball or whatever. (We're
not talking about acres of weeds here, right?)

For hard to kill weeds they recommend 6 oz to a gallon of water, and I
usually use more (I'm fighting zoysia grass!). It takes a week or so to
work.

Particularly mean specimens may well need another application later on in
the season.
