I called my local nursery where I have seen the edging in the past. Here
are the details: 5" deep, heavier gauge (there are two types), in 20'
sections, $16.99 a box, and manufactured by Valley View.
Gardners Supply has something like it on their website in the Clearance
section for $9.99. It is made of recycled tires and the nursery I called
had not heard of that version. Since it is a clearance item, I would want
to know more about it before I spent MY money!
The zoysia grass spreads by runners, so bricks/stones/etc. are not very
compatible alone. I have seen gardens where the black plastic border was
put in and then "covered" by stones. I still think it looks a bit weird,
so I have just the plastic.
As far as browning, my yard still looks as dead as a doornail. I hate to
mow, so I LOVE it. More time for our favorite activity!! It is brown
about 6 weeks earlier (or later) than everyone else. It needs full
sun--shaded areas have been overseeded. Overseeding tends to look worse
than expected--bright green patches in the midst of dead brown. I nurture
the zoysia everywhere I can as it is more resistant to weeds--and then mess
with the shaded areas in any way I can--with mixed results.
