Yup - that's what they look like.  In the above photo, where they have
that little *tuft* of greenery above the suspended flowers, is where the
weird flowers are.  I'm wondering if they aren't similar to a squash
plant (I'm stretching here) producing male flowers first??  The little
upward facing flowers look nothing like the picture (above) or like the
other flower buds at all!
