Vivien,

Neem is an interesting product. There is a business story about the
patenting of Neem in the USA, a product produced by Indians in their native
country freely and given away freely. Neem trees grow in gardens there.

Neem caught my attention a few years ago. I bought a container of Neem,
mixed it 50/50 with water, dropped in the JB's.

Nothing happened. Neem will not kill JB's or anyting else for that matter
unless the product is ingested by the insect. Then death does not occur.
Some lethargy is what is supposed to happen preventing breeding. Neem is
nearly impossible to keep on a plant so has not made much of dent in the
horticultural arsenal available to gardeners.

Maybe the patent holders have done well.

I shall keep watch for your beetles, I certainly hope one more menace is not
headed to New York. You guys have that awful lily beetle which has not made
it over the Berkshires yet.

Just right now our major garden concern is rain, rain and more rain as all
summer.
