The plant you know as Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' is not seed grown. Several
catalogs do sell a seed labelled as Goldsturm. This seed will not produce
the plant you know as Goldsturm from the garden center or friend's gardens.
R.'Goldsturm' is propagated vegatatively, that is by divison. Just why
Burpee is selling that is a good question, it will grow a normal black eyed
susan. The popular perennial sometimes carries a longer Latinate name, a
special variety I think and that may be why the catalogs get away with
calling their seed 'Goldsturm'.
Do try to find a few plants locally, divide to single crowns, plant in good
soil, water well through the fall and you will have a good start on next
year. Goldsturm, if receiving enough water, will spread quickly into large
masses in the garden.
Another good source is a friend's garden. If you were near us you could have
bushel of that plant right now.
