Hello Group:
Is any growing Bergenia ciliata?
If so, where are you are how do you handle the winter months? What month
does it bloom for you?
I am pretty certain B. ciliata will die here in the open garden but such a
wonderful plant. Asiatica guru wrote to me and said in the Kashmir
(Pakistan/India) the leaves are huge, 20 inches (45-50 cm.) wide and high.
He has ragged plants some springs in W.VA.
It would bloom in March in W.VA. So, it will live over in WVA but not look
good in spring when it blooms.
I have it in a pot now and may use a cold frame. Researching this plant, it
is mentioned as a cool house or conservatory plant in British books.
Deciduous here. I have a cold plant room for winter and cannot find the
information on winter chilling - does it need it or not.
Just now the leaves are growing larger daily and appear to be more than 30
cm. wide at the base. Huge green hairy leaves. Therefore it must like hot
weather unlike it's relative B. cordifolia.
Anyone with a Bergenia ciliata, I would love to know how far north.
