Re: Aconitum blooming

Hello Anne,
How very gracious of you to return with a report in detail on the blooms of
your Aconitum.
Sounds as though you may have A. vulparia. Close in appearance is the one I
have, A. septentrionale 'Ivorine'.Perhaps I am giving mine too much shade, for it
never has bloomed well for me. Only reason I keep it is for the foliage. Among the
first up in spring and last to go dormant in early winter. Very few stems per
clump, very lax stems with few blooms. By the time the blooms open they are laying
over on something else or the ground. Anyone else growing this cultivar?
Fall blooming anemone also make great companions for Aconitum. I began placing
anemone with my aconitum last fall. Results will be a bit better this season as
things begin to fill out a bit more.
Now I am wandering around trying to locate room in the garden for more
species/hybrids of the fall blooming Gentiana. Decisions, decisions. Looks as
though something is going to have to give... but can't make up my mind what that
will be.
