It does overwinter in Zone 4 if it has the conditions it likes-the very
sharp drainage you mentioned, and good snow cover.
I know of a Canadian garden writer who grows it up in the Bruce Peninsula,
which is the bit of land that juts up between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
And I have grown it to bloom in my zone 4 garden without any trouble (I'm in
a zone 5 garden at the moment). Not sure just how many frost free days I
have but I start
