SU,
I assume you want burgundy flowers for this time of year-- I have some
burgundy too, the Knautia already mentioned, a cactus dahlia ( many dahlias
come in this color, and have a lot of effect, as they all do!), and a new
Lysmachia atropurpurea 'Beaujolais', --24-36" with a bit bluish foliage that
boasts maroon flowers similar to the gooseneck--I believe someone mentioned
it here on this list a while back. I havent seen it bloom yet, it's still a
baby, but I have high hopes. ALso Clematis, 'Niobe', and Astilbe are this
color. I have a viticella Clematis that has just burst into another bloom,
after practically croaking after planting. I bought an untagged
one--masochistic--so can't tell you what it is, but it leans toward carmine
red anyway.
I think the burgundy flowers look very nice with burgundy foliage nearby,
like Penisetum rubrum and Berberis, and Lysimachia ciliata ? with burgundy
foliage. I use this same color scheme in June with IRis.
I'm curious, what are the other predominant colors you are mixing with
burgundy? I went with limey-yellow like Moonraker Phygelius, and some
variegated sage in green and yellow.
