This discussion reminded me of a funny story.
One fall a few years back, my witty friend and I had a craft booth at
Blue Lick State Park in Kentucky at their Fall Fest. It was a good
distance from our homes and we had seen a lot of goldenrod blooming along
the way. We noticed how pretty it looked blooming with the asters and
ironweed.
I remarked to him, that the previous day in some of the park literature I
had read that years ago that this area had quite a buffalo population and
that goldenrod was a food staple of migrating buffalo. Through the
process of eating, digestion, and their droppings, the buffalo was
responsible for spreading goldenrod.
Well, just about at this point, we crested a hill above a long, wide
valley all abloom in goldenrod, it looked like a golden river.
To which my witty friend remarked, 'AH!, the original yellow brick
road!'
