I took a cutting of the phlox I'd like more of, and put it in the same
water I had placed a stalk with a blossom, from a lobelia cardinalis
that got destroyed by some animal, about a week before;

and lo and behold! that lobelia stalk is growing roots and the blossom
is growing!

I forgot that many plants do propagate by cuttings; so now both these
stalks will eventually be put in the ground, and new plants will emerge
next spring, hopefully;

my husband and I took up about eight monarda plants from a very well
grown wild spot we pass on one of our walks; there are hundreds of them;
we took up a lot of earth and gave the plants a new home with lots of
water at first;

some of the stalks broke and I put them in water too, along with the
phlox and lobelia, but they don't look happy at all; I'm guessing
monarda doesn't propagate that way;

also, in the past on this list, I've written that I've grown sanguinaria
from seed, and someone was very congratulory; now I have to 'fess up,
because I found out that what I've grown is sanguisorba; which may be as
difficult to grow, but I don't know; but I've never seen either for sale
anywhere.
