Re: Orange flowers


I used to do the pink, blue, polite yellow thing, until I realized that
while that looks luscious here up until about the middle of June after
that the sun in the midwest is just too darn bright and all but the most
saturated colors wash out and have lost their zing. So I plan the pastels
for spring and early summer and after that turn on the fire -- all the
reds, oranges and bright yellows I can find (not hard since many
perennial late bloomers seem to have the same idea), plus white for night
and dark, saturated blue for contrast. Finding the saturated blues is the
difficult thing, but so far salvias and some veronicas have worked best.
