Hello Claire,
JoAn is the sun gardener around here. We both physically put here raised
beds into place after she drew up the plans, but she is the one who plants,
sows, transplants and harvests. Totally her territory. I do not even have
opinions on her beds. If I do I keep them to myself unless it is
complementary in nature. When gardeners make appointments to come visit the
nursery and gardens the first think they see when parking is JoAn's raised
beds. Now we go straight to her area and she has to come out and talk about
her garden.
I am the shade gardener and my territory is up on the hill. She does
help me a lot with weeding, mulching, maintenance. But she always checks in
if she is not 100% sure of a plants ID. She is quite sensitive to how
everything looks so will get to weeding long before I will. I will wait for
the soil to be just right, can dig them out one by one... she will shear
them off at the ground so visitors can not see them. But it is free and
willing labor, so I keep my mouth shut, say thank you very much for the
help.
We do get into discussion when it comes to planting in common territory
such as landscaping around the house, or in our wildlife habitat areas. Most
of the time I see the wisdom of her suggestions;-)
