I'm soliciting suggestions. I'm giving up trying the get the late blooming
monkshood I have to perform for me. The idea was to have it bloom in fall
in front of a spicebush with its yellow fall color, but after three years,
I'm going to move it and give it one more chance elsewhere. I do have very
difficult, droughty soil that has its own ideas about what it will grow.
(No Heuchera does well for me, or any monkshood except a big one with very
lax stems that was given to me and is in full bloom now in the unimproved
soil. Cimicifugas--the native Black Cohosh--still won't bloom, and Liatris
spicata also grows very peculiarly, though L. squarrosa does magnificently.
Weird, I know. Biggest gardening challenge I ever had is this place.) Is
there any late aster that has a deep purple or blue color, can tolerate
pretty dry conditions as well as partial shade, and is at least 3 feet tall?
(I do have asters in other areas that are doing very well.) I have
considered trying an Amorpha canescens in place of the monkshood (I know,
it's not a perennial, but thought it might thrive there.) I'm open to any
suggestions. Thanks.
