Hmmm....well, late bloomers for partial shade not on the list are
Cimicifuga (Actea), Tricyrtis (toad lilies) and Kirengeshoma plamata,
but none of these will do well in a very dry area. Sandy soil, if
you amend it like mad with organic material, is not so much a problem
except for getting dry - but the organic material would help a tad
there. Still, I think you'll have to irrigate just about anything
you want that blooms in partial shade this time of year...esp. with
these hideous hot temps. we've been having. I have clay soil and
it's like dust now...so soil type is not gonna save anything unless
it's a bog:-)
I just got my hands on Acanthopanax (Eleutherococcus) sieboldiana
'Variegatus', said to do well in dry shade...with it, you don't need
flowers; marvelous yellow variegation...this is a shrub, tho' not a
perennial.
