I should have looked this up when it was first mentioned. You're absolutely
right--Persian Shield is strobilanthes dyerianus--should have looked at the
specific epithet (that's the species name that follows the genus name). My
AHS A-Z Encyclopedia does indeed say that S. atropurpureus is for Zones 5-9
and its "dense spikes of tubular, indigo or purple flowers" is apparently its
major feature.
