The pesticide thing is probably a good reason to peel them, Frank is right,
they die without a lot of care and then they sometimes die anyway.
I had one a property some years back and it fruited once. The squirrels
chewed holes in all the fruit before it became ripe enough to pick. Then I
discovered when ripe, they all fall on the ground immediately so the unripe
picking must be necessary for the farmer. I had forgotten about that tree.
About looking good in the stores, lights or whatever it is, they are rather
pretty, like an old painting. Too bad they do not taste better.
Thanks all for the peach commiseration, I'll find something else to like in
late summer.
