Re: Strobilanthes dyerianus--winter in Z6b

I have wintered one over for 2 years by just bringing in the pot it
lives in and setting it just on the garage side of my greenhouse
opening. There are other things in the pot as well - couple of
cannas and stuff. Well, it looks pretty ratty by spring, but comes
back and is looking pretty durn gorgeous right now, if I do say so:)
About 30" tall or so.

In this winter location, it has some light, but not a lot as it ends
up behind a couple of very large tropical hibiscus - sort of mashed
between them and my potting bench; temps probably stay between 40F
and 50F where it is as it's a tad warmer there than in the greenhouse
proper. I don't water it much, but enough to keep the pot from
totally drying out.

I have also grown this from cuttings from my original plant. See
where you are rooting them in water; interesting. I first tried in
my normal coarse sand with out covering them and had no success; then
covered pot with a plastic bag to keep humidity high and got good
rooting...so, considering it roots in water think it needs that high
humidity to do so.
