Marsha,
You are going to love this project. Our club installs ponds in school
yards. Some kids will love it, take an interest and drive you nuts with
questions... so what ever plants you use, make sure you did you homework
and know all the answers!.... Other kids will think it is boring, and
those are hard to deal with.
We found starting a 'pondkeeper club' there helps... then those who want
to take an active part can... and keep the trouble makers that can only
think of ways to destroy it at bay.... :)
At some schools, the science teachers have taken it seriously, and made
it part of the class... those school's ponds are worth it. Kids have a
hands on learning area.
My other club, native plants, have tried to do something similar with
schools... found the parents, groundskeepers, do not like natives.
Nothing like stopping in to check on things and find they have weeded
your plugs out. So my suggestions, keep to recognizable plants!
Good luck!
Donna
