Hi, Judy...
They sure do here in Chicago. They seem to want to snug up to the base of
shrubs, aerating the roots in the process. The shrubs then don't survive the
winter.
Also good to know: if there's one hole, look for more as they like multiple
entrances to their nests.
Even the ammonia deterent may take a couple of shots as these fellas are very
determined, especially in the late summer/fall as they prepare their nests.
Good luck and keep your eyes peeled - they're very clever.
