To add insult to invasive pest injuries, we now have something called the soybean aphid. WI is the largest producer of soybeans in the Nation and farmers here have never had to control pests on soybeans - very low maintenance, high yield plants. Now they are flying around everywhere and are worse than gnats or mosquitos in some areas.
Thank goodness their life span is only 5-6 days and a good wind knocks them down. Right now they are flying with abandon!
I'm laying a brick patio this week and I can't imagine how many of these little nasties I've inhaled!

And to make this a *legal* perennials post, my blue globe thistle (echinops) has exploded with blooms this year. It's about 6 feet high and gorgeous!! I'm also seeing more butterflies, and had 9 monarch caterpillars on my asclepias this week!
