Lobelias?

I've had Ruby Slippers for years and it has multiplied like mad and I've given
dozens away.  This year they ALL died over the winter, as did those of the
friend who originally gave me a plant.  Actually, we weren't terribly upset;
she was planning to pull hers all out because they flopped all over the place.
I was just shocked - I guess I took the plant for granted.  We both much
prefer L. siphilitica, which came through the winter fine.  Other cultivars
I've tried (e.g., Pink Flamingo, I can't think of the other names) have not
thrived for me.
