perennial sweet peas?

hi all.
novice gardener here.
In spring of last year, when I was buying a boatload of plants at my favorite
nursery, I bought what I thought were annual sweetpeas in small pots. (yes, I
paid cash for an easy-to-start from seed annual....novice and lazy)
I planted 2 of them at the base of a post that was circled with twine.
Nothing really happened and it was pretty crowded around there and I thought
maybe they just died.
Well, whatever they are, they're back with a beautiful vengeance! Except for
the nasty Japanese beetles on them, they're really beautiful and they don't
stop blooming the prettiest pale pink flowers. But I can't figure out why
they're there. Are there perennial sweetpeas? Or did these reseed from
annual flowers I never saw? If perennials, how do I care for them and should
I be diligent about cutting off the seedpods (of which there are many)?
Thanks for any advice!
