Help...rampant giant iris?

Hi, everyone:
 
This is a new plant to me...and it's growing rampantly in a native wooded  
area on my property. 
 
It looks just like a giant iris...it's about 6 or more feet tall but with  
leaves on steroids. The area is pretty much always damp. It's never been there  
before. 
 
Could this be some sort of bamboo? I can ask Chris to post a picture.
 
If so, what on earth do I do to eradicate it?
