Joanie,
Iris cristata forms a good groundcover with sword shaped leaves.
Blooms in May with flowers sitting just on top of the foliage and, remains
green until heavy frost. Quite a few named cultivars out there ranging from
white blooms to several heights and sizes when mature, lots of shades of
lavender and blue. Very versatile and does well in heavy soils and root
competition. Even better, of course, in decent soil.

Gene...it sounds so delicate and yet substantial...drooool. Does the Iris
cristata foliage persist or die down after flowering?
