Sorry, David!  Probably just my brain and the early hours of the morning
when I posted to your surname 8-)

Thanks for the info.  Wedging it between rocks does make a lot of sense and
is one thing I haven't tried.  Would you  recommend an organic, fairly rich
soil in the rocks or a lean, gritty one?  Our weather gets *really* hot. 
We can have weeks with the temps in the upper 90's F (36C) and moisture is
sucked from the soil at a rate you wouldn't believe.  "Normal" summers also
have frequent thunderstorms and our humidity is generally high.  This
summer, we're in a drought, and have had not appreciable rain since early
June -- but with the same high temps.

I know this is quite different from your climate and wonder if my climate
would indicate any difference in care....if this makes any sense.
