What was that? A gardener's experience.

Yesterday it was sunny and warm in my
little garden room. Suddenly I heard
a sharp pop, pop, popping.
I looked through the door, and couldn't
find the source of the noise. At first
I thought the culprit was the cat, but
he was outside sunning himself. Sorry,
puss. The noise had sounded like something
going from one side of the room to the other.

The second time this happened I was
nearby and quickly investigated. Still I
couldn't locate the source of the popping sounds.

Then I noticed a couple of lupine pods laid on a shelf
in the sun, and that now the pods were split open
and curled in their characteristic fashion,
and that the seeds were gone.

The noise was caused by the seeds
ricocheting across the
room as they were released from the drying pods!

Watch out for them thar pods!
