Please forgive me for going off topic for a minute here, but I have a
quick question.
I just found out that the odd looking tree in our neighbor's back yard
is a black walnut, famous for producing a substance toxic to many
plants. I have researched the Web for plants that are not affected by
the juglone, but have not been able to determine whether it affects
roses.
Since I have just planted three rose bushes within about 65 feet of the
walnut tree, I am very concerned. Should I move these roses to a
different location? I have also planted buddleia, sedum and a wonderful
type of Joe Pye weed (the name escapes me right now), which has dark
foliage, approximately the same distance from the tree.
Now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to rethink my flower beds.
Can anyone help me? Unfortunately, most of the plants on the do or dont
lists are fairly common plants and I have a tendency to pick up an
unusual plant here or there.
Thanks for your time.
