HELP!!! I am planning some changes and new additions to my yard and need
some EXPERT advice.
Can someone recommend perennials that can take this much sun and grow with
pines?
I have planted in the last two years a heather bed. They like sun and acid
soil which is what you have. I have a weeping blue spruce surrounded by
heather plants. This year I have put in four winter blooming heaths. They come
in different foliage colors from silver grey, orange, gold, light or dark
green. Flower colors range from white, pink, dark red, lilac, to dark purple.
Rock Spray Nursery seems to be the supplier with the largest selection. I
bought mine through Garden.com because they offer a money back guarantee. I
purchased a dozen plants direct from Rock Spray last year and lost seven of
the twelve and found that they don't replace plants. I found that if they dry
out during shipment, you lose the whole plant. But once they get established,
they are drought tolerant.
According to Garden.com, heathers thrive in full or at least a half day sun
with a S. E. exposure and a well drained, slightly acidic soil with plenty of
organic matter to retain moisture. Zones: 4 through 8 Hope this helps.
