RE: Slugs

Actually Bill, I haven't lost nary a plant since I've started this
"quarantine" type process. I've lost a couple I brought home and stuck
straight into the ground... but that's another story. ;)

A word of note: I live outside the Seattle area, and it doesn't get
very hot here (not to me, anyway). I water the "driveway" plants
religiously during the few days they sit there. I'd love to be able to
say that I haven't left a few sitting in that drive for weeks...
<grimace> (my husband would love it even more if I could say I plant
them within a couple of days...) <snicker>

I have a four o'clock that is about 18" tall, six pots of pink/purple
lantana, two cannas, a flat of spurge, a tray of cosmos that are 10"
tall - all waiting patiently for over a month... shame on me. Funny
thing is, the canna didn't have any leaves, and is almost 2 feet tall.
<shrug>

In fact, the canna and the four o'clocks were dug up from my ma's yard
in Texas in the midst of one hellacious heat wave during June, carried
here on the plane in wet paper towels, and have been sitting in el
cheapo black nursery pots lined with white plastic grocery bags...
here's the kicker... their "dirt" is crumpled newspaper crammed around
them in the pot. <shrug>

But, on a lighter note, I'll let you know if they survive my putting
them into the ground this weekend...
