Re: bamboo

Jim,
I doubt that you'll recieve many responses as your message was recieved
on the list as an attachment(most people wont open them from unknown
sources)...Obviously I did ,so will offer what I can in th way of info
re:bamboo....

Bamboo seeds rarely and when it does its family (like kind)blooms all
over the planet regardless of location and timeShortly following these
bamboos die...I have never seen seed offered ,if you could find
it,suspect it would be of limited viability(but could be wrong on this).

My suggestion would be to purchase bamboo which would be hardy to your
area...You did not state what your winter lows are so cannot make a
favorable recommendation...My Phyllostachys aurea withstood a winter
which fell to -24f for over 2wks...It survived to become a very
attractive stand which now stands 12-13'tall..However there is another
var.P.nuda which is the champion for hardiness(so its said)..There are
several well known var.that easily are hardy to -10f..
If you look up <bamboo society >on the web your should be able to
determine sources in Canada..Let me know if I can help you again...P.S.
I have 5 different var.myself so unless your very cold something should
work out for you.
