Re: bamboo

Hi Jim. It is possible to grow bamboo from seed, but availability is a
problem as many bamboos fruit only rarely. Interestingly, when fruiting
does occur almost all individuals of a given species flower at the same
time, produce huge quantities of seed, and then die! I don't recall ever
seeing the seed for sale, but it may be available thru a society. I have a
friend who is a bamboo nut and i know that he has grown some from seed.

I have been looking through seed catalogues for the availability of
bamboo seed (hardy species/cultivars).

Since I am basically unfamiliar with bamboo, I must ask this basic
question: is it practical to grow bamboo from seed. If it is, where
can you acquire seed for such.
