never fear, next spring you will be pulling handfuls of poppys
(california poppys?) out of your garden to get them to a manageable size.
even after years of top dressing my bed, and in fact, after putting
about 6" of compost and mulch on top of the bed last year, the poppys
cane back..I did till this in well so I'm sure I redistributed the seeds
everywhere.

I have had no problem weeding, mulching and digging around these
plants..they still return

I haven't experienced this seeding actually but I do divide my campanula
every few years

I'd say dig and clean away..if you have doubts, you can always buy a pkg
of seeds to encourage the new plants in the spring..but I haven't ever
had to do this unless I want a new variety
