(Fwd) Slubs

Hi Nan

It seems that there is diversity of opinion with regard to the plants
that slugs like. Could this be due to diversity among the slugs that
like plants?

Our nasturtiums do get attacked from time to time by a rather small
(10mm?) round brown slug. The delphiniums fall victim to a number of
different types, usually small and sleek "grey garden slugs" (unlike
the bumpy skinned nasturtium lover) whereas the agapanthus doubles as
"Hotel Escargot"

Perhaps different species of slug attack different species of plants
(quite likely really) and the populations of these slug species vary
from garden to garden, district to district according to climate and
past plant populations. Any ideas?

I have yet to see any of the list from:

ARE SLUGS A PROBLEM IN YOUR GARDEN?

completely free from slug damage but the damage caused to our
agapanthus is almost nil whereas it acts as a moist, safe haven for an
enormous number of snails which then go forth and predate on the more
attractive items .. Hostas, delphinium etc

This subject has greater depth on the Internet than I first imagined.
There are an incredible number of slug sites

Have a look at this beauty

Sorry if this repeats discussion. I have not been following the slug
posts until now.
