Marilyn,
You may not get that pest in PNW. I've never read of it being a problem in
the UK where Helichrysum is used extensively. I think it may be something
that happens in the hot and humid climates.....was hoping someone could
confirm this theory....
I get them on Aquilegia, too and just ignore them. This is a rather
different pest in that it bores a tiny hole in the leaf, and makes this
sort of webby stuff that sticks the leaves together. I've seen the larvae
- small and black, but never the whatever it is that puts them there.
Unlike on Aquilegia, where they are simply unsightly, this kills the leaf,
which then turns black and, since it's sticking to the adjacent leaves, is
a melluvahess.
Margaret, had not thought of the wasps...wonder if they like these
critters? An idea, for sure.
Rika.... Are you using BT specifically on Helichrysum or in general
against leaf minors?
