Re: Ornametnal Grasses - fall planting


Most ornamental grasses are planted in spring because the soil warms up 
and dries out at that time. Since most grasses need good drainage, 
a warmer drier soil help your grasses establish themselves quickly 
(assuming they're not grasses that like damp feet). Out of necessity, 
however, I've planted perennial grasses (Miscanthus sinensis 
'Sarabande' and M.s. 'Silberfeder') in late summer, given them 
sufficient water, and they've happily survived our Zone 5 winters and 
thrived.
