Hello,list
I just visited this, the most amazing garden in Seal Harbor on Mount Desert
Island (Maine). It is the best kept secret -open one day a week, admission
only with prior reservation, neither phone number nor address are listed
anywhere and you get a piece of paper stating that it is forbidden to
publish any of the above. Even so the place is full of visitors with
notepads and cameras. In the center of the garden are two tiers of English
style borders - perennials and annuals beautifully combined and maintained.
Some combinations that I just have to try:Coreopsis "Moonbeam" with Sedum
"Rosy Glow",Thalictrum rochebrunianum with Achillea "Apple Blossom",
Snapdragon "Sprite" with Zinnia "Gold Sun" (annuals), Echinacea "Magnus"
with light purple daylilies, Heliotrope "Marine" with Verbena "Peaches and
Cream"(annuals). There were also some annuals I am not familiar with and
would like to learn about and look for: phlox drummondi( all colors but
especially "Blue Beauty"),Zinnia linearis "White Star", Chrysantemum
frutescens and others. I would appreciate any info on these sources,
personal experience and such. The whole thing was extremely inspiring -if any
of you is heading this way email me and I will send you more info. Sophie
