Clivia x kewensis 'Vico Yellow'
Hardy outdoors only in Zones 9 and 10, uperior houseplants elsewhere.
Tolerate dry air and the dim light in most homes quite well. Glossy board
strappy foliage looks fresh and clean. Enjoy tight quarters, blooming
away in 6 or 8 inch pots. I grow mine indoors on a north facing
windowsill in winter and move outdoors to a windowbox on the north and
east side of the house for summer. Choice container plants for the
summer shaded patio. Minimal care will reward you with extravagant
bloom.
Prices charged for seedling plants are incredible. Hundreds of dollars
are regularly charged for unbloomed, yellow Clivia seedlings. Named
plants are only from offsets and may cost into the thousands of dollars.
We imported flasks of the first ever tissue culture of a superior clone
named 'Vico Yellow'. Bred by Sir Peter Smithers, author of 'Adventurers
of a Gardener', must reading for anyone with a passion for plants.
The young Clivia 'Vico Yellow'plants we offer are one year out of tissue
culture. They have 2-4 leaves and are ready to shift in to 4 inch pots.
They will begin to bloom when they have grown 12 leaves which should be
in 2-3 seasons. Offsets that form cab ne grown on separately. The
Clivia 'Vico Yellow'plants will be shipped in late May and early June via
Priority Mail. A choice and rare plant of exceptional merit. First
offering in U.S.A. $49. each
(This catalogue also has a reprint of the origin of this hybrid written
by Sir Peter Smithers, tracing the lineage back to 1925 and the
collection of two plants from the wilds of S. Africa.)
