What my idiot husband ( Steve ) forgot to say is that it's important to get
the water direct to the roots. Make a hole in the ground as close to the
plants as you can, sloping in towards the roots of the plant. Pour the water
into the hole, letting it soak in before adding any more. This way you lose
very little to evaporation and get the water to where it'll do most good.
