I remember one year here in rainy (today) Oregon when we were on a water
saving plan ..I also showered with the tub stopper in and used the many
gallons of tub water for watering..no reason to let all that good water
go into the drain field, used the water I ran into the sink first AM..old
pipes at the time made that water taste bad.. ran dishwasher and laundry
water (I use a very mild detergent because of the drain field that runs
to a 3 season creek) into a barrel and was able to save all my perennials
and roses.
I also used soda, milk and other clean jugs as direct watering agents,
cutting off the bottoms and upturning them into the soil at the roots of
the prized roses especially.
I still use many of these water savers in the dry parts of the
summer...that lasted less than 2 weeks this year so far!
Good luck and if you think hard, you can come up with some more water
saving ways
