I appreciate this discussion of green wizard rudbeckia. I started several and gave them
away to everyone as if they were a precious gift. (The catalog looked neat). Then I saw
one in bloom and my heart sank. The flower looked like a cigar stub with a few 1/8" light
green triangles for petals. I quickly sent a note to a friend who had received one and
took it to California with her while she goes through chemo for colon cancer. She got
such a laugh out of it because it looks like body waste. She thinks it is the perfect
symbol for her current situation. At least it brought humor to a dear lady who needs it.

My green wizard's bloomed this year ( I just seeded them inside in January) and
I must say I'm a bit disappointed.
They looked so cool in the catalog but kinda puny 2" flowers and don't look
quite so hot in bouquets as I thought they would. Is it because they are in
their first year? And will do better next year. Hate to 'waste' good garden
space.
Anyone else plant these and had good results?
