Re: asclepias speciosa

Nan - I've had the same experience with the yellow asclepias. I had one
plant that had gotten about 4' tall and leggy. I cut all the stems back to
about 6-8" then cut each stem into several pieces as you would for cuttings;
simply stuck them in the ground around the original plant, no rooting hormone
and no coddling afterwards. I now have a nice little clump of yellow
butterfly weed to show for it; all the cuttings rooted and are now putting on
new leaves and growing very well, despite the heat we've had the past few
weeks. This will also work for the asclepias tuberosa. I am unfamiliar with
the speciosa and do not know if the same procedure would work, but if the
plant is similar in habit, etc., I would imagine so.
