Pat-
Lucky I chose the butterfly weed to be one of the first plants I ever tried
to take cuttings from....lucky because it was successful and I was encouraged
to take more and more. I use the same mixture as Nan - 50/50
perlite/vermiculte (fine) and no rooting hormone and the success rate is
incredible. So you can high hopes that this spring Monarchs may be feeding
and depositing larva on this plant---soon to follow the wonderful green
cyrstals and more Monarchs (at least with the tuberosa). So when you see
those little tiny catapillars eating all of the foliage off of this plant -
don't worry - the plant will not suffer, even without foliage and you will
soon have butterflies everywhere. :o)
