Karen
I really had to laugh when you said that ripping our plants was a bit
drastic, and I agree. I could just see myself out in the flower beds
like a mad person ripping plants out of the ground and throwing them
helter skelter,
what I was referring to as ripping out was really cleaning out the beds
that have a lot of annuals. I have old timey petunias, cosmos,
cleome, zinnias, to name a few. they look pitiful, and they are
taking up my water supply that could go to my perennials that need it
desperately right now.
I called city hall early this morning and they have lifted the water ban
here and said to try to be conserative,,,,,,but when I learned that the
country club located just a few streets behind me was still watering
and they had not closed the car washes here in town. oh was I livid.
I went outside and started three (3) water hoses, and they have been
going all day. I shut the last one down about 8:30 tonight and when I
get up in the morning I am starting them again. I had saved bath
water last night and first thing I started carting 2 gal buckets out
of the house and watering, then I remembered to make my call to city
hall.
you know there is an advantage living in a small town. everybody
knows everybody else and just wait until I see our Mayor. one of my
neighbors has already sent the Mayor a message, because he couldn't
fill his swimming pool.
oh well I have every intention of making up for lost time. my
flowers were suffering and the business man (car wash and country club)
carried on just like nothing was wrong, and I thought we had a crisis.
I have 5-50 gal plastic drums that I catch rain water in, but I had
used all of them except 1 of the drums and I used it today, "boy" I
have been watering everything in site today, and of course I won't be
able to get more water until it rains again. and that could be forever
from the way it looks. our weatherman does not predict anything for the
next 5 days.
my plans were to start my clean-up today, but I was distracted. I'm
glad you mentioned that I could cut my daylilies back that was one of
the questions that I intended to post tonight to the list. I'm going
to elimanate anything that is not a perennial.
hey I like the water bottle idea. I could use the plastic pop
bottles I've got plenty of them
thanks Karen we will survive this yet wait and see.
