Is the rain v. ground/tap water difference connected with acid/alkaline
contrast? My water supply till this year has been from the mountain river
running by, which is low Ph, so acidic. A borehole to groundwater in January
replaced that for domestic supply, and works fine. As it's alkaline, though,
the Environment contact for private water supplies (there's no mains)
advised keeping the river supply for garden purposes, says the lower Ph is
far more effective for plant life, so I water from the river. Though from
the lab. report on its drinking quality it's a mercy we survived 14 years of
it! We all of us who hear of your serious drought situation sympathise so
much that I hesitate to jump in to the debate from rainy Snowdonia. Avril
