Hello Group,
Since winter has stifled the perennial fun, what are all of you doing to
keep
the thumbs green?  Claire Peplowski

I have been exercising my "green thumb" and the other 9 dirty fingers in my
basement. I keep a lot of my summer plants in the basement over the winter
under lights.  I've always wanted blooming houseplants so am enjoying
hibiscus, geraniums, impatiens and oleander.

I try to go down for a little while each day to take care of them, wash,
clean and organize the basement, wrapping presents AND I have started quite a
few perennial seeds.  My plan is to get them started so that I can begin to
transplant right after Christmas.

I usually wait too long to mulch my roses so am doubly glad to see all the
snow this year.  All the Christmas lights look extra beautiful under the snow
cap!  Shoveled a path to the bird feeder to keep it filled so my cats and I
can watch them and the squirrels.

Do any of you provide water for the birds in the winter?
If so, do you have a bird bath heater?

As much as I love working outside in the summer, I like the change in weather
that me forces me inside and other activities.  When not gardening I do a lot
of sewing.  No one seems to like winter but I do especially when we get some
snow to keep things looking fresh.  I also enjoy seeing the "true character
and personality" of the trees without their leaves to cover the artistry of
their branches!  How I would miss that!

Happy Holidays to all of you!
