Claire & Paul,
I have saved my double rosebud Impatiens for the last 2 winters and am
trying it again. I hate to read about all the problems on them with
whitefly & mites. I have not had pests I am aware of. They continue to
bloom through the winter even in the darkest days. Meanwhile the aphids are
feasting on the Abutilons (they haven't been treated with Marathon), the
Brugs have their usual mites, The Epiphyllums have both aphids and mites
(not treated yet this year) and the cane Begonias are dropping their mildew
infected leaves. But they are all blooming - go figure.
Well, I have to be lucky about something out there - right?

Paul writes on Impatiens and whitefly. For me it has always been mites and
Impatiens. A speaker before a club meeting I attended years ago recounted
the many ways she tried to bring Impatiens through the winter. I suppose if
you have a double flower or variegated leaf you might persevere.
