Barbara,
I have grown Asclepias x "Gay Butterflies" and the germination is rather
poor. I got the seed from from a reputable commercial source.
I normally chill most of my perennial seed. I have very little problem
germinating the other common species of asclepias such as A. tuberosa and
others. Sometimes the seed lot might contain a lot non viable seeds.
Another secret in germinating asclepias is that it needs warmth. Soil temps
should be around 70 F. I have no trouble getting asclepias up during the
summer. It starts germinating within three to five days under a mist system.
