Always welcome a new tip on germination. I have a wire basket over mine to
prevent the cats from sleeping on it. The old cast iron radiators were the
best. I remember them lined up with tomato cans in the early spring.

Here are two subjects for new year thought. Does anyone know the plant sold
by Park Seed and Wayside as Malva Marina? They say about 18 inches and of
course the pic is hard to resist. It is a form of sylvestris. I have grown
several forms of sylvestris and they are all annual or biennial. They are
usually lanky and a group looks best. The plant is listed at 12.95 and is
labelled perennnial.

Two seed catalogs written by the owners and speaking to hands on experience
are The Fragrant Path (76 pages) , PO Box 328. Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, 68023.
The owner is Ed Rasmussen. There is no web presence. Nearly all seeds are
1.50 per packet and selection is eclectic. Many older annuals and perennials
that can be grown from seed are listed here plus climbers, exotics, etc.
This is a northern garden.

The other is list member Kristl Walek's:

Gardens North Seeds
5984 Third Line Road, North
North Gower, Ontario

CANADA

This catalog gives information on germination. Nearly all entries are hardy
to zone 4.

You should send these smaller seed companies a dollar or two when you ask for
a catalog. The information is worth much more than that.
